Broomball in Darwin

Recently Broomball Australia held the second ‘Darwin Cup’ event at a small rink in Darwin the capitol city of the Northern Territory. This fun event first took to the ice in 2018 to promote the sport and look to introduce Broomball to a new area. With the success of that first trip north the 2019 event was scheduled and those able to make the trip all assembled in Darwin.

Acclaimed for giant crocodiles in the waterways, big sky’s, great fishing, stunning outback scenery and the movie Crocodile Dundee it may be surprising to find it is also the location for an ice rink (not the only tropical location either with one also in Townsville) yet here we find those dedicated to playing assembled and ready to play.

This fun event was enjoyed by all and the winners were clearly all who participated. Plans to have broomball played at the rink are being followed up with the owner keen to see it happen.

For the record the combined team from the ‘southern’ states took the final against the local team who showed some real talent and big smiles.
